Parent-Child Interaction Therapy

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a program designed to help little kids who struggle with disruptive behaviors. It's all about making the parent-child relationship stronger and improving the way they interact with each other. The therapy has two parts. In the first part, called child-directed interaction (CDI), it’s all about following the child’s lead. In the second part, parent-directed interaction (PDI), parents take the lead. During these sessions, a therapist watches how the parent and child interact and gives tips to the parent. PCIT is meant for kids aged 2-7 who have issues like acting out, experiencing trauma, or facing developmental challenges. The goal is to teach parents ways to build a warm and secure bond with their child while promoting good behavior and reducing a targeted behavior.

Trauma Informed Care.png
Trauma Informed Care

Trauma Informed Care (TIC) is an approach in mental health and social services that recognizes and responds to the effects of all types of trauma. It emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both providers and survivors and helps rebuild a sense of control and empowerment for those affected by trauma.

When offering Trauma Informed Care, therapists and caregivers operate under the core principles of recognizing the prevalence of trauma; understanding how trauma can affect families, individuals, groups, and communities; and integrating this knowledge into all aspects of treatment. The aim is to avoid re-traumatization and support healing and resilience.

In practice, Trauma Informed Care for families often includes the following elements: Safety, Transparency, and Trustworthiness; Peer Support and Mutual Self-Help; Collaboration and Mutuality; Empowerment, Voice, and Choice; and Cultural, Historical, and Gender Issues. Our providers are trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma and understand various ways trauma can manifest, such as fears, outbursts, or withdrawal. They adapt their methods to meet the specific needs of each family, ensuring that all interventions are sensitive to the trauma’s impacts. Trauma Informed Care is not about treating the trauma itself, but rather adjusting the way care is provided to ensure it is respectful of and sensitive to the effects of trauma.

Our Philosophy

Our team of licensed counselors and therapists collaborates closely with preschool staff to seamlessly integrate mental health support into the daily activities of young learners.

Through individual counseling sessions, group therapy, and interactive workshops, we equip preschoolers with essential coping mechanisms, emotional regulation skills, and strategies to navigate social interactions.

In addition to directly supporting preschoolers, our In-School/Preschool Support and Counseling service provides valuable consultation and training for educators. We work alongside teachers to establish trauma-informed practices, implement effective behavior management techniques, and support children with diverse learning needs, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Moreover, our program places a strong emphasis on fostering collaboration and communication with parents and caregivers. We provide regular updates on children's progress, offer guidance on parenting strategies, and facilitate family counseling sessions as needed, ensuring a cohesive and supportive approach to mental health care across home and school environments.

By offering mental health support directly within preschool settings, we aim to remove barriers to access and provide early intervention to support the healthy development of young children. Our ultimate goal is to promote emotional well-being, social skills development, and academic readiness among preschoolers in our community.
